Packing Tips
Being organized and having a plan will help reduse the stress of packing for your move ahead. Here are some handy pointers to help ensure a smoother and more enjoyable moving experience.
Step 1 - Moving materials needed for packing:
- Various sized boxes
- Packing tape
- Padding (bubble wrap, tissue paper, white newspaper - no ink)
- Scissors
- Black marker
Step 2 - Getting started:
Concentrate on packing one room at a time. Separate fragile items from non fragile items. Fragile items should be packed with plenty of bubble wrap or tissue paper and marked “FRAGILE”, stacking them at the top of your piles. Personal items such as jewelry, photographs, or important documents, should be packed separately and taken with you on moving day.
- Computers, televisions, stereos and other electronic equipment should be packed in their original boxes if possible. If not sturdy boxes used with proper packing material should be used to cushion these items.
- China should be packed securely with generous amounts of tissue paper in the bottom of the box and in any open space to prevent any movement. Make sure each item is individually wrapped with non-print paper to prevent the print from marking the dishes.
- Clothes should be left on hangers and stored in wardrobe boxes; loose clothing can be packed in various sized boxes. Be sure to mark the boxes appropriately.
- Small appliances can be packed with bubble wrap or tissue paper and stored securely in boxes. Be sure to pad them once they are in the box to protect from any jostling that may occur.
- Large appliances – refer to owner’s manual for any special moving instructions. Loose parts should be taped or stored properly. Any exposed electrical parts or coils should be covered with old blankets or linen. The tub of your washing machine should be stuffed with blankets, towels or stuffed animals, while stuffing towels between the tub and frame to keep it from moving.
- Furniture such as tables or dressers should be wrapped with blankets or sheets to prevent marking. If possible remove legs from tables. Do not tape dresser draws shut, as this may take the finish off. Clothes or light items such as pillows may be left in dresser draws.
- Mirrors or paintings should be wrapped in paper and then packed in flat cardboard boxes sized to fit. Be sure to stand these items on edge, not flat.

Any items that may be explosive, flammable, or corrosive.
This list includes items such as:
- Gasoline, Kerosene, Lighter Fluid, Ammunition, Fertilizer, Paints
